one busy fascist

I saw this sticker on a car in the Crissy Field parking lot today.

It was on this car:

It's somewhat believeable to me that these kinds of stickers are somewhat common in certain parts of the country, but to see this sticker on Pride weekend in San Francisco is pretty scary.

Update: Some people were contemptuous of someone who would have two of the same bumperstickers on his (presumably) car. Actually, they are different, as this picture shows. So continue to be contemptuous, but because he's a fascist, not because he's got duplicate stickers.

I did have to physically restrain myself from smashing the window.

I think it would be an educational experience to get about ten or twenty friends together and approach the person. Have one ask the sticker owner a question like, "Do I understand correctly that you want to hunt us because you hate who we are? Could you, then, explain the difference between the terrorists and yourself?" Ask it very politely and non-threateningly, but with serious concern for the person's humanity.

Watch the person squirm, or quietly get in the SUV and drive away. If you are really lucky, the person might actually say, "No. I don't." before leaving. Hopefully, a lesson will have been taught.

Maybe you could've drawn black swastikas on the bumper sticker.

Sasha-

You blew it. That was not the time for "restraint."

But who am I to talk, I wasn't there. No one conveniently drags around a backpack full of bricks..

What a golden opportunity for some golden payback. But easier said than done.

Moses is certainly correct although he indulges an impossible fantasy.

Yeah, I was a little stunned. I mean this is in the most Liberal city (not necessarily the most left or radical city, but the most Liberal) in the country, and, it's in the middle of Pride weekend, when there are hundreds of thousands of queer folks who come to San Francisco (hence, the title of my post).

More to the point, though, I didn't have my kryptonite with me, which is the appropriate tool for Window Reconfiguration.

Ask him what's the difference between him and a terrorist? In a "concerned" way?

Are you fucking kidding me?

These guys *have no shame*! They have no sense of irony. They have no sense of humanity. They certainly have no conscience, nor any sense of fairness or reciprocity. What in the hell makes you bleeding-hearts think you'd get a contrite, embarassed response from such a person?

Because you, my friends, would be embarassed by such a question. And that's why you don't have "License to Hunt Rednecks" stickers on your hybrids: you'd be mortified to have one.

But anyone stupid and violent enough to have such a sticker on their car would not be in any way swayed by your "concern".

What'd they'd do instead is either yell "FUCK YOU!" at the top of their lungs, flip you off, shoot you on the spot, or, most likely, just run your ass over.

Please, people. You can't use reason or shame against these people. They have none of either.

Is there a way to tell whether the owner of the SUV was from the SF-Bay Area?

He or she could be but my theory is that it is more likely that whoever owns the SUV; came from one of the more right-wing areas of California like Orange County. Anyone who would put something like this on there car is trolling for a response and would probably find it worthwhile to drive hundreds of miles to make some "LIBerals" angry in SF during Pride weekend.

Personally I think he or she is a bloody loser.

Allow me to point out that we now know this person's license plate numbers. I am quite sure that I saw this vehicle being used in [insert heinous crime here].

That is all.

I'm curious about that american flag sticker next to it - there's no close-up, but the overall photo seems to have some sort of logo in the middle of the flag.

That logo could tell us a lot about what kind of person this is - perhaps its some creepy fascist organization. The GOP, ferinstance.

Yeah, I failed to get a pic of the other stickers, but the flaggy one has an inset picture of an eagle sharpening its claws.

Take that as you will.

The owner of the Xterra was being provocative, you should have been provoked.
Shit like this should not be allowed to pass unanswered.
By leaving that SUV intact you merely serve to reinforce the stereotype.
SHAME ON YOU.
OK, now who can access the DMV files & discover who owns that motherfuck'n Xterra?

By leaving the SUV intact, you remain the bigger person. As aggravating and as hateful as that sticker is, it's not worth slashing a tire or putting out a window. Why give the SOB the satisfaction? Then he'll just brag to all his right-wing friends that us crazy liberals are destroying private property, infringing upon his liberty, etc., etc., etc. Claim a moral, though not emotionally gratifying, victory and move on. That's all you can do with these people.

OK, I have a better one. Next time you see that, scratch a BIG peace sign in the middle of the sticker. Then he has to scrape it off his car.

the time has well past that we should be shooting these fuckers.

and don't give me your liberal-SF bullshit about peace and love.

these people mean business. they are armed and willing to kill. they advertise it openly.

fucking shoot them now before it's too late. buy a fucking gun, learn how to use it.

SF wimps need to understand that ONE and ONLY ONE method has been successful in combatting fascism - you kill them, plain and simple. That's how the resistance did it during WWII - and that is how we're gonna do it to.

That sticker doesn't need all that many changes.....

Replace Liberal with Nazi, replace Gay Pride Parades with Board of Directors Meetings, Democrat with Republican, Union with Fascist, Handgun Control with Nuclear Bombs In Every Cupboard --- the rest can stay.

You're absolutely certian to find Bush-Nazis in News Media Associations and Hollywood Functions (after all they're the ones who are selling the lies about Iraq, Afghanistan and 9/11), and you can find Adolf Cheney's family at the Lesbian Luncheons...
Good enough for me.

Heil Bush!

It is no wonder Liberals are getting a bad name. Slashing tires and smashing windows besides being a criminal offense are antiLiberal thinking to the core.

Nowhere in law, anywhere in this country, is there a guarantee of living your life without offense. Get over it and grow up. You are going to find people of all stripes that are not to you're liking. Yes the guy with the SUV lacks sensibilities. But it is his right to display it, no matter how tastless.

Just walk on by, no one is forcing you to stand there and get your blood pressure up. If you can't you are headed for a life of major disappointment. As most of you are so fond of -- Move On.

I bet you this person also feels violence is the result of video games and TV shows, and not that he/she displays a sticker promoting shooting people.

What amuses me (in a "Wow, he's compounded his own idiocy!" sort of way) is that the guy has two copies of the sticker.

That said, I think JohnM said it well: Just move on. Don't try to change the car owner's mind, because you're not going to. He's plainly committed to being a flaming asshole--and to advertising it to the world.

I do think the sticker is a disgusting and vicious public display of hatefulness and immaturity ("Yeah man, murder jokes are funny!"), and it shows a fundamental ignorance of the basis of American government. You know, that "dee-mocracy" business all of us lib'rals are trying to defend? Yeah, that.

I also think the far-right-wing, ultraconservative section of the Republican party has its collective head up its collective ass, but you won't find me making a joke of suggesting that we institute a bounty on them. I just make snarky remarks in my blog. That's what it's for.

Nice Photoshopping. I pity the poor schlub whose car was photographed for this. Least the P'shoper could have done was altered teh license plate.

why would I photoshop it? What would be the point? What the hell are you talking about?

If I were gonna photoshop it, wouldn't I have taken the picture with something other than my crappy cellphone? And who knows, if I did photoshop it*, I could have equally easily photoshopped the license plate*, right?

* which I didn't.

No, I'm not the same anonymous. Retire your aversion to guns. I know people like this, and they are serious. Worried about the kids? Learn to disassemble and reassemble the weapon and hide its parts in different places. You need to learn how to maintain it anyway. What good is it, you ask, when there is a criminal intruder? None, but that is not why you buy it. You buy it to defend your Republic. You'll have to take your chances if you fear crime, or buy a sturdy gun cabinet. You can learn to use it in a rural area, but if you must use a public range, pay cash, and don't use your real name. Don't tell anyone you own it, and don't join any groups. People who joined groups during Germany's Weimar Republic got a nasty surprise during the Reich. I laugh at the NRA groupies. All those tasty mailing lists. Actual ownership, or what is owned is immaterial- you are on the list. Because in my heart, I know it is the Republicans who would take the people's arms from them. Call it a paranoid rant, but in the hearts of these folks is the desire to kill you. As far as the stickers go, it is still our Republic, and it is their right to display it, no matter how disturbing you may find it.

I can only be glad that my fossil fuel guzzling pickup wears a sticker very similar to this with great pride.

Smashing windows, flattening tires, drawing nazi propoganda on a vehicle...keep it up, guys. The "right" side will only expand the control of both houses of Congress and the Presidency as far as the eye can see.

And we have people like you to thank! Keep up the good work!!

Trolls in the City, now trolls on your blog...

Seriously, tho', you're going to run into the occasional flag-wrapped, cross-toting, Savage-listening fascist when you go to places like Crissy Field or the Giants Stadium (or hell, just even on BART) during vacation season.

That said, the right-wing rhetoric (as noted by David Neiwert, who linked to this post, Kevin Drum, and others) has been getting more vicious of late. Oh, well. When they goosestep in my direction, I, for one, will be fucking ready for 'em.

Perfect! Let's kill a guy over a bumpersticker. A teen wearing "Kill Bush" t-shirt is praised - but your liberal tolerance goes out the window the second someone expresses a different idea. If you are unhappy - make your own stickers and use them - but everyone should have the liberty to express opinions, not just the left-wing nuts like most of you here.

Yes, the bumper sticker is disgusting and in poor taste - to put it mildly. It's also an example of SATIRE. Satire is protected by the First Amendment.

In fact, hate speech is also protected by the First Amendment.

That is, unless it involves very specific and reasonably credible threats of violence and so forth, in which case it could be considered a "terroristic threat" and a criminal act.

Many of the comments posted here advocate vandalism or violence towards the "sticker-monger" - not because these individuals actually feel legitimately *threatened* by the bumper sticker's message, but because they very strongly disagree with it and the sentiments behind it and they are understandably offended.

A redneck being an offensive jerk isn't illegal - it's the programming schedule for FOX News. Haha. Seriously though, either the First Amendment applies to everyone or in the end it won't protect anyone.

Neo-Nazi's are permitted to hold rallies with swastika flags and KKK members are allowed to march in their white hoods - despite the fact that given the history behind the symbols they are employing, many Jews or African-Americans might find their actions to be intimidating, frightening, or threatening. But in order for what they are doing to be criminal it has to go further and meet the specific legal criteria.

I imagine some of you reading this might have leftist bumper stickers. There are more than a few "liberal" stickers with messages that right-wingers may find just as shocking and outrageous and tasteless as you find their mock hunting licenses. You don't want your cars vandalized for it, nor would you find it reasonable or just if that happened to you.

Just let the idiots speak and expose themselves for what they are. If you actually think the dude sporting the "liberal hunter" sticker poses an actual and immediate threat to you, then call the cops on him. But that isn't really the case - it's just another loudmouth jackass. Deal with it.

(Incidentally, if you ARE going to go vigilante on the bumper sticker, don't trash the guys vehicle - just do what somebody else suggested, use a sharpie to draw on it or whatever. Personally I wouldn't bother, but don't make yourself into as big an asshole as he is by resorting to serious vandalism like some petty minded juvenile delinquent.)

(Alternately, if you really think you're qualified to take the law into your own hands and start regulating public speech, just cut the crap and torch their SUV - douse the seats with gasoline and light em up. Sounds ugly? It is ugly. None of us really want ugly, so just give the dude the finger and laugh at how dumb he is instead).
