I’ve been sending an email newsletter to SFUSD elementary principals on possible grants that they may want to apply for (with the offer to working with them, if needed, to apply for a grant).

Here are grant opportunities for your K-12 public school.

Amount: $3000 or more
Topics of Interest: Grants support public education and programs that help students to succeed in core academic subjects and graduate to post secondary education and/or vocational training. Preference will be given to programs, either in-school or after school, which are provided in sequential, consistent basis to students throughout the year. Funding may be used for capital items, program expenses, operating expenses, start-up costs, materials, and/or supplies.

Fields of Interest: U.S and Canadian schools and nonprofit groups with a sufficient population of volunteer actuaries within easy traveling distance.
Topics of Interest: Funding aims to bring together actuaries and educators in local classroom environments with the belief that interaction with real-world mentors will boost student’s interest and achievement in math. The foundation can provide a local network of actuaries ready to participate, as well as suggestions on how to integrate math concepts from the workplace into the classroom. Funding supports the development of viable mentoring programs involving actuaries in the teaching of mathematics to children in private and public schools.

12. HP Technology for Teaching Grant Initiative,

Field of Interest: Mobile Technology for K-14 Students. In 2007, HP will award approximately $10 million in total cash and equipment to schools in the U.S. and Puerto Rico
through the HP Technology for Teaching Program, including
reinvestment for selected projects previously funded.

Deadlines: Online application system will open on January 8, 2007. Proposals must be submitted by February 15, 2007.

K-12 Request for Proposals: In 2007, HP will grant awards to
K-12 public schools in the United States, including Puerto
Rico, that are using a collaborative, team-based approach to
implementing technology integration projects. The activities
of the project must be focused on using technology to teach,
rather than on teaching students to use technology. HP will
select teams of five teachers from approximately thirty
schools to receive the equipment, professional development,
and support they need to effectively integrate technology
into their instruction. The value of the grant award to each
school is at least $30,000.
