The District released some numbers about 2007-08 student enrollment.

This year, 90% of the eligible incoming 6th graders and 91% of incoming 8th graders got their applictions in Round 1. There was an increase in kindergarten applicants-3,972 applicants (compared to 3,869 applicants last year). But both incoming 6th and 9th applicants went down. There was a decrease of 137 students or 4% in the number of 6th grade applicants compared to 2006 (3,145 students versus 3,282). There was a decrease of 423 or 9% in the number of 9th graders compared to 2006 (4238 students versus 4661 students).

The District is a projecting a 11% decline in the enrollment in high school for the fall of 2007.

Six schools received a triple digit increase in applicants for the 2007-08 school year:
-Dianne Feinstein ES, Sunset
-Grattan Elementary School, Upper Haight/Cole Valley
-Thurgood Marshall High School, Silver Terrace/Bayview
-Balboa High School, Excelsior
-Aptos Middle School
-Galileo High School, North Beach

Forty two schools received a double digit increase in total demands, including Peabody ES, Bessie Carmichael ES, Sunset ES, Lafayette ES, Robert Louis Stevenson ES and Miraloma ES.

SFUSD has also tracked the response for various programs, such as bilingual and immersion programs. The District reports that 84% of the program offersing received more requests than available seats and 27% of the program offersiings received more first choice requests than available seats.

The same elementary schools that were the most popular in 2005-06 are the most popular schools in 2007-08. Here is the breakdown. The District gives sibling priority to younger brothers and sisters of students already enrolled in the school:

Rooftop ES, Twin Peaks received 854 requests for 60 seats with 27 siblings (26 students w/o siblings for every seat)
Clarendon ES, Sunset/Forest Hill received 792 requests for 40 seats with 13 siblings (29 for every seat)
West Portal ES, Sunset received 750 requests for 60 seats with 6 siblgins (14 for every seat)
Lawton ES, Sunset received 718 requests for 60 seats with 25 siblings (29 for every seat)
Lillenthal ES, Inner Richmond received 647 requests for 60 seats with 29 siblings (22 for every seat)

The District reports that 20% of the incoming kindergarteners listed their own attendance area school as their first choice. Approximately 44% of the incoming kindergarteners listed an attendance school that was not their own attendance area school as their first choice, while 36% of kindergarteners listed a non-attendance area school as their first choice.

For middle schools, 47% of all 6th grade applicants listed Presidio MS and 46% listed Hoover as a choice.

Presidio MS, Outer Richmond received 1,463 requests for 390 spots with 56 siblings (4 students w/o siblings per seat)
Hoover MS, Sunset received 1,449 requests for 359 spots with 46 siblings (5 students per seat)
A.P. Giannini MS, Sunset received 1,347 requests for 400 seats with 71 siblings (3 students per seat)
Roosevelt MS, Inner Richmond received 774 requests for 240 seats with 31 sibliings (4 students per seat)

For middle schoolers, 28% of incoming 6th graders listed their own attendance area school as their first choice. Another 61% of the incoming 6th graders listed an attendence school that was not their own attendance area school as their first choice, while 11% of incoming sixth graders listed an non-attendance area school as their first choice.

With high schools, Lincoln HS again gets more requests than any other school. In fact, 74% (3,147) of all 9th grade applicants list Lincoln as a choice for its 585 seats. The other most requested high schools were:

Washington H.S., Outer Richmond received 2,899 requests for 650 spots with 94 siblings (7 students per seat)
Lowell High School, Sunset received 1,699 requests for its 670 seats (5 students per seat) As an academic magnet school, Lowell has a different enrollment process-you need to submit your transcripts and grades to be
considered for Lowell.
Galileo HS, North Beach received 1,587 requests for its 634 seats with 75 siblings (3 per seat)

For incoming high schoolers, 25% of the new 9th graders listed their own attendance high school as their first choice. Another 25% of the 9th graders listed an attendance area high school as their first choice. The remaining 50% listed a non-attendance school (Lowell, June Jordan and others) as their first choice.

Deadline for Round 2 is Friday, April 6. The remaining school session is Thursday, March 29. The following schools still have spots for more than 5 students:
