I think we’ll all end up supporting different candidates for Supe in District 9 here at Left in SF*. We haven’t yet had the conversation about how to deal with that, so I’ll keep this brief. It’s obviously only my opinion, and should not be taken to represent the views of any other writer here.
Randy Shaw wrote what I think is an extremely problematic article on the D9 and D11 supervisor races. It seems that Randy has forgotten many of the lessons from the last 8 years of District elections, most especially that roots and experience in the neighborhood matter as much, if not more, than what labels the press ends up slapping on people. I really like Chris Daly’s take on this.

I think that D-9 is extremely lucky in that it has three good candidates running for supervisor-David Campos, Mark Sanchez and Eric Quesada. All will do a great job as supervisor. But it would also be a good to have a woman candidate in the race (and every race).

I have not endorsed Eric but I can’t speak highly enough of him, his dedication to the neighborhood, prgressive values, and his decency as a human being. We should be so lucky as to have more candidates as him. (also by trio. see you all soon.) (p.s. how come we aren’t asking for a censure of diane guys? )

I have been a tenant attorney in SF for nearly 15 years. I focus on representation of the poor, elderly, and disabled. I founded the queer anti-displacement coalition. There is only one candidate for supervisor with a proven track record fighting for low and moderate income renters against a real estate industry drunk with greed. That man is Eric Quesada. Ask Chris Daly.

I think its time that we elect a moderate that has respect and interest in helping out the Middle Class as well as as those less fortunate. We have one of the most government dependent citizen bases in the country, we give away rent to those whom don’t need it and ask ourselves why the poor can’t survive in SF……its because we give rent control and tweaks the supply and demand. We prefer boarded up store fronts over formula retail. We prefer to have homeless people strewn in our streets and neighborhoods then provide them with housing. We don’t tear down dangerous freeway passes because homeless live under them.
