Voters Not Fooled by Landlords’ Hidden Agendas Scheme to Abolish Renter Protections and Rent Control

A new survey of California likely voters released March 26 by the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) found that 41% of likely voters would vote “No” on Proposition 98, while only 37% would vote “Yes”. On the other hand, by a two-to-one margin (53-27), voters were inclined to support Prop. 99. Both measures are on the June 3 ballot. To view the press release, click here.

Despite these positive numbers, we still have a long way to go and cannot rest on our laurels. The landlords plan to spend millions to try to trick voters. We need your help to educate the voters and make sure they vote at the ballot box or by mail. Visit our Get Involved and Downloads Sections of our website for ways to get involved!

Prop. 98 is an Attack on Real People

The story of Robert and Dorothy Fleak is the latest profile in our series highlighting real people who will be hurt by Prop. 98 if it passes. Robert and Dorothy live in a modest mobile home park in Rohnert Park. Because of rent control, they manage to survive on their very limited fixed income.

Robert says: “”If Prop 98 were to pass, it would amount to economic eviction for most seniors that can’t exist without rent stabilization. Every day we see attacks from wealthy landlords to maximize their profits off the backs of those who can least afford to defend themselves. If seniors and low-income families lose our rent control and other protections that safeguard our homes, we’ll be left with nothing.”
