BOS Looks into Items about SFUSD (edit this)
Supervisor Chu will be holding a hearing on the school assignment process at the City Operations and Neighborhood Service Committee at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 17 at City Hall, Room 263.
It is interesting that Chu didn’t hold the meeting at the City-School Select Committee which is 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at the BOS Chambers. Their agenda item is the Asthma Task Force’s recommendations for SFUSD. Supervisor Dufty, Chair of the Select Committee, noted in Roll Call yesterday that he is requesting that the City-School District Select Committee have a hearing on the status of using the Rainy Day Fund for SFUSD’s budget woes.

If the Board of Supervisors brings up that yawn again that the city provides millions of dollars in “in kind funding” to the school district, I hope the Board of Education doesn’t bend over backward and act supine this time in giving into that ridiculous logic.
The school district provides huge “in kind funding” to the city, including healthcare and mental healthcare services. The 50,000 children in San Francisco’s public schools get a pittance in assistant from city government compared with the hundreds of millions of dollars provided for homeless and health care services for adults.

Hmm. That was Ed Jew’s big cause — championing the cause of the thousands of folks who all claimed to live “three blocks from Lincoln” and wanted special access for their kids — before he veered off into helping small-business owners with their tapioca tea parlors.
