Mayor Honors Four Principals (edit this)
Sandra Osborne, of the Presidio Child Development Center; Bonnie Coffey-Smith, of McKinley Elementary School; Carmelo Sgarlato, of James Lick Middle School; and Kevin Truitt, of Mission High School received “Principal of the Year” awards from Mayor Newsom on Friday.
Newsom was joined by Supervisors Bevan Dufty and Tom Ammiano.
Coffey-Smith announced her retirement at the end of the school year. Excelsior Middle School’s principal Rosa Fong was chosen as her replacement. Carmelo Sgarlato will be leaving James Lick Middle School at the end of the year to become the principal at the Schools of the Arts.

Congratulations Kevin Truitt! I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Truitt for 6 years. He completely deserves the honor of Principal of the Year. I found him a great listener, very supportive and able to keep the needs of the students at the top of all we did as educators.
