From a Rodgers and Hart song:
You don’t know that I felt good
When we up and parted
Tom DeLay was indicted. And under the House of Representatives’ rules, he had to step down (as least temporarily) as House Majority Leader. He is the first House leader to be indicted in more than a century.
It appears that Mr. DeLay had created a group called “Texans to Elect Republicans.” Keep it simple and focus on the message. In Texas, it is illegal for candidates to accept corporation money.
Something that we in California could learn from our brothers and sisters in Texas.
So corporation money was being funneled into “Texans to Elect Republicans”, and they were funneling money to the Texas Republican Party-and it appears that somehow and suddenly, favored Republican candidates got lots of money.
Mm….. As my friends from the British Midlands would say, “Funny that.”
No doubt that this will be dragged out for months. Mr. Delay who has a nickname in the house as the “Hammer” appears to like power very, very much-and my guess is that he will not go quietly into the night.
But for one lovely day, we can appreciate the House of Representatives’ rules and their willingness to stand by them as their House Majority Leader finally will have to answer questions on how the so-called”Hammer” used his skills not only to arm wrestle votes on the floor of Congress-but arm wrestle the Republican influence in Texas.
