Last night’s Milk Club 30th anniversary dinner was pretty great, although long.

Fog City Journal’s got a photoessay up with some great pictures.

Highlights included Harry Britt and Gwenn Craig on what it was like to experience the prime of Harvey Milk, the surprisingly compelling video/slide show (with stunning live accompaniment by Holly Near), the screenwriter of Milk, Lance Black, and Sean Penn (Warning: Bad Words).

Black called out Harvey’s famous Hope Speech as inspiration.

I was 14 when I first heard Harvey speak, and it was the first time I knew that someone loved me for me. From the grave, 10 years after his assassination, Harvey gave me light. He gave me hope.
Every year at the dinner, the club awards a Volunteer of the Year. This year, it went to Denise Dorey, a member of the Axis of Love and a tireless worker.
