Last night’s Milk Club 30th anniversary dinner was pretty great, although long.

Fog City Journal’s got a photoessay up with some great pictures.
Highlights included Harry Britt and Gwenn Craig on what it was like to experience the prime of Harvey Milk, the surprisingly compelling video/slide show (with stunning live accompaniment by Holly Near), the screenwriter of Milk, Lance Black, and Sean Penn (Warning: Bad Words).
Black called out Harvey’s famous Hope Speech as inspiration.
I was 14 when I first heard Harvey speak, and it was the first time I knew that someone loved me for me. From the grave, 10 years after his assassination, Harvey gave me light. He gave me hope.Every year at the dinner, the club awards a Volunteer of the Year. This year, it went to Denise Dorey, a member of the Axis of Love and a tireless worker.
