McGoldrick and the Mayor break up
Today’s Chron suggests that the recent alliance between McGoldrick and the Mayor is on the rocks. At least for now.

McGoldrick was turning somewhat conservative, as all commitee chairs in charge in finances do (ie, Peskin last year).
They look at the numbers and start looking at ways to cut costs from our bloated bureaucracy and insufficient government. And he thought hiring private security guards at the hospital would be one way to do it. I know this pissed off the union and made you wonder about McGoldrick’s sanity.
But, face it, our city’s bloated bureaucracy has 27,000 employees as is (a mere 24, I believe, got laid off in the recent red-ink tsunami) out of control with laziness and inefficiency. And the problems are only now getting under way. The big gorilla in the room is the huge pension obligations owed to retired workers. As every native San Franciscan with a relative retired feom the city payroll can tell you: You work for just five years for the Cit and you get a good pension for life.
So I believe McG was looking at this problem and it made his hair (or what is left of it) stand on end.
Of course, Newsom, the double-crosser that he is, reneged on a deal–and that ended any semlence of a McG-Newsome alliance.
Ballard is the mayor, by the way. Newsome is just a cute boy running for governor.
