Here is one for the Believe It or Not files: The School Board unanimously agreed on something.

Granted it was something we all should agree on. But as you know, in San Francisco, sometimes even basic stuff can turn into a circular firing squad.

The Board passed a resolution unanimously opposing the State Propositions that Schwarzenegger is moving.

Here is the text:

Subject: Resolution No. 510-25A5

In Support of the Alliance for a Better California

- Commissioners Eric Mar, Sarah Lipson, and Norman Yee

WHEREAS: Teachers, firefighters, nurses and public employees play a critical role in

our community; and

WHEREAS: These citizens’ livelihood has been threatened by the anti-public

school/anti-teacher agenda put forward by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger; and

WHEREAS: The Governor ran for office on a promise to be an independent voice that

was not beholden to special interests; and

WHEREAS: The Governor has raised more special interest money than any Governor

in the history of California; and

WHEREAS: The Governor has vetoed legislation to protect consumers and lower the

cost of prescription drugs for California seniors; and

WHEREAS: The Governor has refused to work with the legislature, instead insisting on

an unnecessary $70 million special election that would be paid for by cutting local services; and

WHEREAS: California Propositions 74, 75, 76, 77 and 78 on the November 8th state

ballot would devastate our public schools, threaten our public safety and eliminate the checks and balances inherent in our system of government; and

WHEREAS: The Alliance for a Better California [ www.betterca.com ] is a coalition of nearly 2.5 million teachers, firefighters, nurses, police officers, health care workers and average, every day people who are devoting our careers to helping others.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Board of Education of the San Francisco

Unified School District supports the Alliance for a Better California in opposing the damaging agenda that Governor Schwarzenegger is advancing in his November 8th Special Election.
