Apparently Gavin agrees with Kim, since it seems he takes credit for test score improvements in an interview in next month’s San Francisco Magazine (or not–the article in question is not on line yet).
What I found a little disturbing about the article was a tidbit about Arlene Ackerman:
Carl Barnes, president of the city’s Parent Teacher Association, said he’s more concerned about finding a permanent replacement for Ackerman, who will officially become “superintendent emeritus” Feb. 1, handing over the reins to her deputy, Gwen Chan. (Ackerman will continue to draw her $250,000 annual salary until June 30, and will receive a controversial $375,000 severance package by July 10.) (my emphasis)So not only does she get her famous $375,000 severance, but she also gets 5 months of “emeritus” status with full pay? That’s over $100,000. Now I know what they’re talking about when they talk about a dream job!
Oh, and thanks for the pocket change, Superintendant.

With the school closures scheduled for community meetings next week
and the BOE vote on which schools will be closed and which students’
lives will be impacted by those school closures on Jan. 12, it is
extremely disheartening to see that Arlene is getting $100,000 while
“emeritus” and no doubt, Interim Superintendent Chan is getting more
funds than she got as Deputy (and with the added responsibilities,
she should within reason).
It remains me of when Enron filed for bankrupcty, Ken Lay bought
another private jet. And when they went to the Securities Exchange
ask them to testify as they took Enron’s name off the exchange, they
used that jet and stayed at the Ritz-Carlton.
