The POA does an independent expenditure in District 6
Hi folks,
The Police Officers Association did an independent expenditure in District 6 that arrived today. That means that the GGRA, BOMA, and now the POA have all done independent expenditures against Chris and it is only September. There have also been 3 other mailers that simply blast him by an anonymous group called Concerned Citizens of District 6. There are also 2 anti-Daly websites and 2 Anti-Daly window signs. We need to redouble our efforts to ensure that Supervisor Daly can compete with the big money that is being spent in District 6.
Fundraiser for Supervisor Daly
Location: El Rio
3158 Mission Street
When: Thursday, October 5, 7:00pm
Support Chris Daly, have fun, and meet cool people

New Poll Shows Governor trailing 64% - 21% with key group
A new poll of California Latinos shows a deep dislike of Governor Schwarzenegger. In this poll of 600 Spanish-dominant likely voters, the governor has higher disapproval ratings than President Bush, and is losing to his opponent Phil Angelides by 64% - 21%. Spanish-dominant Latino voters make up about 10% of the California electorate, with all Latinos now making up about 18% of the electorate as a whole.

Understanding Whiteness - a Workshop Examining Race in the LBGT Community
Fri., Oct. 27, 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Race remains the challenge of the 21st century. White folks wonder why, despite good intentions, it is so hard to integrate their organizations/boards/lives. To live our values, there is work we have yet to do. Come together as LGBT folks and allies, white folks, and people of color, to experience and learn the Understanding Whiteness/Unraveling Racism Model because we have all been affected by systemic racism. Come to explore how whiteness as normative and white privilege may be creating barriers that we need to address in our own community.

The End of Suburbia
I just finished watching The End of Suburbia: Middle-aged White Guys Talk About Oil (Actually, the subtitle is Oil Depletion and the Collapse of The American Dream, but every single person who speaks in the movie is an old white guy, except for the Iranian Minister of Oil, and he only has one line). I thought the film was a great example of how a mediocre film about a compelling topic can be pretty interesting.

Consolidation Day (edit this)
Today was the day that every new teacher dreads. If a school is underenrolled, classes are merged or “consolidated.”
This means that less teachers are needed. The newest teachers with the less seniority are then let go-four weeks into the school year after all districts have hired.
Some lucky teachers get moved to a school that needs teachers. Others get long-term substitute jobs. Last year, one new teacher got consolidated out of an elementary school, was sent to a middle school and then spent the last semester in a high school. She left and got a teaching job with Hayward Unified School District this year.

International Tenants Day
Second, Join the Prop H campaign next Tuesday, October 3, at Noon at City Hall for International Tenants Day. The International Union of Tenants has issued a proclamation for the day calling for an end to unjust evictions and forced displacement, citing the worldwide trend of evictions for speculative and no-fault reasons. The IUT also calls on countries to adhere to international treaties which make housing a basic human right. Join us for a press conference on Tuesday in support of a Supervisor resolution backingthe IUT call for an end to evictions (International Tenants Day is actually 10/2, but we are timing this in conjunction with the Supes and to avoid Yom Kippur).

An Open Letter to the Ethics Commission about the Anonymous Campaign Mail Against Daly
Mr. John St. Croix
Ethics Commission
30 Van Ness Avenue, Suite 3900
San Francisco, CA 94102
September 29, 2006
Dear Mr. St. Croix:
We are writing because we believe that serious violations of San Francisco’s campaign laws are occurring in District 6. These violations include failure to properly report tens of thousands of dollars in electioneering communications and independent expenditures. Properly reported, these expenditures would trigger a lifting of the spending cap in that race. We request that you immediately order an investigation and lift the spending cap in District 6.
