Bad philosophers, bad!

via Nathan Newman, I see that the West Coast division of the American Philosophers' Association has decided that they can't be bothered to honor the HERE boycott of the Westin St. Francis.

Actually, that's not fair. They apparently went through a process and decided the tradeoff (moving to San Jose) was not worth it. Presumably, that took the philosophical equivalent of differential calculus, cause it makes no sense to me.

The last link has some comments by folks who presumably are members of the APA. They seem to be pretty much against having the meeting:
In their scrupulous efforts to respect their bylaws by basing their decision only on the inconvenience etc. to participants — supposedly taking no position whatever on the labor dispute — the executive committee members remind me of the board members of corporations, explaining that they would love to reduce their environmental degradation and pay decent wages, but unfortunately they are legally obligated to only maximize profits. In other words, I would behave ethically if I could, but I have this job, you see, which obliges me to forego ethical considerations.
There was a picket today, apparently, about which I have no news, but in the meantime, I suggest you go elsewhere for your family's philosophical needs.
