Get your mind in The Gully

One of my favorite news sources is a website with the odd name of The Gully.

Put together by a group of queer activists in New York City and elsewhere, it offers original reportage with a global, queer, leftist perspective. It goes beyond the usual blog technique of simply reprinting mainstream press stories and offers well-written reports on topics such as the situations of LGBT folks in various countries.

Among their recent articles are one on homophobia in Jamaica, and an essay on Susan Sontag's avoidance of coming out. I'm not as into their printing of the Commercial Closet pieces, which seem bland in comparison.

The site bills itself as a magazine, which is in keeping with the rate of new articles, which is less than daily, generally.

Oh, and the name? The website of Homocom, their sponsoring nonprofit organization, explains that the name "The Gully" came from the idea that a little bit of water, if it follows the same path, can eventually make a change.
