Hard Times in Frisco
The SF Examiner has a new look and I like it. It's a free paper and that's cool. However, there was one piece of news that didn't quite make the jump from paper to the web (this morning). The news? A doubleshooting in the Bayview District (District 10). One victim is was described as a black male in his 20s. The second, also a black male in his 20s was transported to a hospital with gunshot wounds.
I searched the Ex's archives and was reminded of previous coverage of this issue. I was encouraged to learn of Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi's efforts to work with Mayor Gavin Newsom on this issue. We cannot afford to be lulled to sleep with messages of a bombed out and depleted Bayview/Hunter's Point. These crimes are occurring in other parts of the City and resources (institutional and community) should be deployed in a manner that makes common sense.
By the way, a co-worker of mine lost three family members in three days. One was a 23 year old black male who was shot and killed over $800 bucks. He was buried last Friday and my guess is that is cost the family more than that to bury him. According to the Ex, homicide rate is up from last year. As of Sunday, there have been 18 homicides in the first three months of 2005. Of that number, exactly half were young black males.
Hard times in Frisco (that's right, I said it).
