Solutions for District 6?

Received an email from the Executive Director of an organization called Urban Solutions. Roger Gordon has had a rough going ever since his 2002 campaign for District 6 Supervisor. The same campaign famous for the failed ABCD (Anybody But Chris Daly) strategy. Chris Daly was victorious in that campaign but some say that the incumbent has it in for Gordon. Daly has questioned whether or not his constiuents have actually benefited from federal funds to the nonprofit run by Gordon.

Gordon writes:

"On Thursday, March 17, at 11:00 am, the Finance & Budget Committee of the Board of Supervisors will meet to decide whether to release $100,000 in federal funds to Urban Solutions. THIS FUNDING WAS AWARDED MORE THAN A YEAR AGO but has been held up ever since. Now, thanks to the leadership of Board President Aaron Peskin and Finance Committee Chair Tom Ammiano, we finally will have a public hearing on the matter."

Gordon writes further:

"If the funds are not released on Thursday, Urban Solutions, which already has scaled back operations, will have to lay off more staff or suspend operations for a while."

The members of the Finance Committee are Tom Ammiano, Sean Elsbernd, Chris Daly and Board President Aaron Peskin. It will be interesting to see how this one pans out. Is this about petty politics or genuine concern for the District 6? Like anything political the answer is somewhere in the gray area.

Roger Gordon tried to make this an issue in the 2002 race, because Chris Daly had opposed funding of Urban Solutions, and advocated its defunding.

But Chris wasn't alone ... the Mayor's Office had made the same recommendation as well. Of course, Roger tried to characterize this as petty politics -- but it simply wasn't true.

I don't think Chris has it in for Roger Gordon. I would speculate that it's vice versa.

Paul, Esq.,

I generally think you are a decent person and try to keep the world spinning the right way. I am sure you will be among the next generation of very progressive leaders (perhaps even elected ones).

But your statement about the Mayor's Office's position on Urban Solutions couldn't even be called a mischaracterization. It's a fable and it's beneath you. I challenge you to document any of it.

In the future, let Chris fight his own battles. He doesn't need the help and it doesn't make you stronger.

-- Roger Gordon

P.S. The only one who "has it in" for Chris Daly is Chris Daly.
