Resolutions Committee Hearing

Tonight the California State Democratic Party resolutions committee will choose 10 resolutions that are the priority of the Party. They are voted on tomorrow on the floor as well. If they aren’t passed this weekend, they will be taken up by the Executive Board.

I’m pretty confidant that they won’t pick the non-discrimination in health care resolution. But hundreds of people who are looking to become “someone” will read the resolution and get educated on the issue.

My top ten resolutions
1) Clean Money: The Democratic Party calls for a clean money system for elected statewide and legislative offices.
2) Civil Marriage and Religious Freedom: The Party stands for equal rights for all families, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
3) Universal Health Care: The Party calls for a single payer health insurance system.
4) Iraq resolution: The Party calls for the troops to be withdrawn from Iraq.
5) Supporting the Demands of Caregivers at Sutter Health Hospitals: The Party calls on Sutter adhere to community standards that every other Hospital in the state follows.
6) Supporting Non-Discrimination in Health Care: The Party opposes discrimination by insurance companies and health care service plans based on gender identity.
7) Instant Run-Off voting: The Party supports using IRV in single-winner elections.
8) Restoring Value of the State Minimum Wage: The Party supports raising the State Minimum wage and indexing it to the national inflation rate.
9) Oppose Schwarzenegger’s privatization of pension funds.
10) The Green Team: The Party calls on the United States to ratify the Kyoto Protocol to deal with the largest sources of pollution.

The Committee hearing has begun. As an author of 3 resolutions, I’ll get to speak on the pension fund privatization, Sutter, and non-discrimination in health care.

My prediction is that the Party will support Civil Marriage, Universal Health Care, the Iraq resolution, Sutter Health, and maybe the Green Team.

The vote is happening now. I will post the results later.
