The Unsinkable Molly McKay

I got an email this morning from my friend and ally Molly McKay, the Field Director of Equality California about my post last night. She was thrilled to hear that the Civil Marriage Resolution is one of the top ten priorities of the Democratic Party. Molly and I went to school together many years ago. She was just as unsinkable then as she is now. There are few that can match her in energy and intellect.

She also emailed me to say that at the next Democratic Party Convention, she is going to become a delegate and get down “here and be a partner in arms on making transgender health one of the top ten priorities next time.” Having an ally like her gives
me hope….

Molly has been working on this issue for many, many years and if this legislation passes, the entire LGBT community should thank her for work.

Lockyer: How to suppress Civil Rights and Win Enemies

This morning Kamala Harris is on a panel on Environmental, Consumer and Civil Rights Town Hall meeting. Bill Lockyer is moderating the panel. Lockyer and Civil Rights? Yeah, right. How to suppress Civil Rights and win enemies…

Howard Dean

Howard Dean spoke at the Convention last night. If you would like to watch a live web cast of Howard Dean, click here.

Democrats Must Own the Criminal Justice Issue

Kamala Harris is speaking now. Her main theme is highlighting the false choice of choosing between civil rights and safety and that Democrats should not concede the public safety issue to Republicans. Substantive programs that prevent crimes are the answer, not incarcerating people.

Floor Vote

The vote is about to happen on the priorities. The full list includes: Clean Money, Supporting IHHS workers, Civil Marriage, the Sutter Health Resolution, Raising the Minimum Wage, Protecting Social Security, Opposing CAFTA, Iraq, Rejecting Bolton and Negroponte.

There are four consent resolutions: reaffirmation of the women's right to choose, stopping Schwarzenegger's Special Interest Agenda, Opposing the proposed Special Election, and thanks and support for Senator Barbara Boxer.
