Another murder...
Via Orcinus comes this news from Arizona:
Eyewitness reports state that 23-year-old Amancio Corrales, a Yuma native, who most recently lived in Phoenix, was dressed as a women on the night of Thursday, May 5th at Ron's Place in Yuma. While dressed as a woman, it is reported that Corrales flirted with a well known US Marine named "David." Eyewitnesses at the bar that night said "David" was furious when he found out Corrales was a man. Corrales was seen leaving the bar in a silver Honda with "David" and two other men whom appeared to be US Marines. "David" and the two other men took Corrales to a location near Paradise Cove, where the next morning Corrales was found dead and mutilated.Let's see if they try to use the "premeditated trans-panic" defense.

1 Comments:
Much of the information is false and has never been confirmed. On such a serious incident, it is important to have the facts before publishing them. The false information caused delays in the investiation. "Ron's Place," "US Marine", "David", "silver Honda" have not been confirmed and "mutilated" is false.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
June 2, 2005
A vigil honoring the death of Amancio Corrales will be held Saturday, June 25, 2005, at the Riverfront Park located at the end of Madison Avenue, from 4:00pm until 10:00pm, in Yuma, Arizona.
We urge you to attend and bring a friend to demonstrate community support to ensure that law enforcement conducts a proper investigation; secure Bias (Hate) Crime classification; ensure the murderer(s) are brought to justice; properly honor Amancio; build a strong community, with a voice to create change; and, support the family and respond to their needs.
Amancio, 23, was murdered May 6, 2005, as the result of “violent trauma.” Amancio was a well known female impersonator throughout Arizona and the boarder towns of Mexico. He was honored at a Mass, Sunday June 5th and was attended by family, friends and members of the Yuma GLBT Community and their allies. His grandmother passed out “remembrance pins” (a small silver angel with pearl tear-drop body and wings) to many of those attending. Friends remember him for his generous nature and festive spirit.
The Amancio Project was formed by the Yuma County Gay Rights Meetup in association with family members and close friends, the Arizona Leadership Institute, Arizona Human Rights Fund, Yuma High School Gay Straight Alliance, Wingspan, Southern Arizona Gender Alliance, and the United Church of Christ.
