A great turnout

Gavin Parker(?)The Supes are still discussing the Muni Budget as I write this, but public comment is closed, and I want to give major props to the Coalition for Transit Justice, who made a great showing today. Most of the folks who spoke were on message, and they used their signed postcards to great effect. Overall, the point was made, consistently and strongly.

Casey Mills Sandoval just made a great point, which is "where was Rescue Muni?" They apparently wrote a letter, but weren't able to turn anybody out for the hearing. It makes me wonder who is really a member of that organization, other than Andrew Sullivan.

Also, Sandoval repeatedly called raising parking fines a "Boston Tea Party situation".

Ammiano just implied that Tom DeLay would favor the Muni cuts. But more to the point, he points out that Muni service is a class issue, since many poor folks can't afford to own a car.

Here's the highest-paid official in San Francisco, Muni's Director, Michael Burns
