I beg to differ
Love McGoldrick or not, I beg to differ on Randy Shaw's analysis of McGoldrick. In today's Beyond Chron, Shaw writes,
Since I work for the union that represents the nurses that Shaw is speaking of, I actually pay attention to this stuff. McGoldrick had a hearing two months ago to restore funding. He has consistently supported the nurses. The Budget Committee tabled his motion for a variety of reasons that I may or may not agree with, but I would never suggest that Ammiano and Daly who sit on the Budget committee supported cuts to public health nurses just because they voted to table McGoldrick's idea on how to restore funding. Daly, Ammiano, and McGoldrick will restore the funding. Their vote should not be interpreted as being unsupportive of public health nurses.
And from what I understand, the Mayor backed off the midyear cuts to AIDS/HIV programs last winter so McGoldrick never even voted on this.
I totally agree with Randy that politicians need to be held accountable but I haven't and won't evict McGoldrick from the progressive camp. I have disagreed with a few of Jake's decisions, like his vote on the Rent Board charter amendment.
But I also get that people of good faith can disagree. As I get older, I'm more interested in a good faith, principled debate than drawing strict litmus test lines. I'm not suggesting that the argument can't be impassioned and strong, but I'm also aware that at times you can make the strongest argument and someone just has a set of values that are different but are equally valid. In fact, that is one of the reasons that many, including me, held former Supervisor Matt Gonzalez in such high esteem...He didn't burn bridges when there were disagreements over policy with Tony Hall. And frankly, Jake is no Tony...

I got an email this morning from a Public Health Nurse that was way less polite than my post. Apparently she is on the email list for Beyond Chron and was very confused to put it mildly...
