When did this become an accepted euphemism for torture?

American officials have not disputed that people have been sent to countries where detainees are subjected to extreme interrogation tactics but have denied that anyone had been sent to another country for the purpose of torture. (all emphaisis mine)

Shouldn't that be "Xtreme interrogation tactics", or maybe "X-Treem"?

And is there going to be a TV show? Or even a magazine?
