Local 2 is in the house.

Local 2 upped the ante yesterday. About 50 of us got arrested in the Hilton while doing a traditional sit-in. We came into the hotels in twos and threes and converged on the lobby. Tho Ti Do, the Secretary Treasurer of Local 2, was in charge. Renee Saucedo, Greg Asay, Mike Casey, Kelly Dugan, and many, many others were there. Tho yelled out, "Is Local 2 in the house?" And we shouted back, "Local 2 is in the house." We all sat on the steps leading down from the front door to the lobby, began clapping, and Charlie, a Local 2 person, led the chants. We sang, "We shall not be moved," chanted, and generally disrupted business. Cornell Fowler, the consultant hired by the hotels, hovered around us trying to talk on his cell phone.

We lasted about an hour inside. The police surrounded us, arrested us, and took us to 850 Bryant where we were cited and released.

Expect a lot more from Local 2 in the near future.

But as Kate Bennett, a local 2 member, said to the Chronicle,

But you have to break an egg if you want an omelet. You have to fight if you want to succeed, and this is for the future of our families.
