No Condo

The Tenants Union picket today at 273 Lexington was small but spirited. And well-covered, with four or five TV stations and the Examiner there. We had a chance to talk to a number of prospective buyers, and a couple even walked away after getting a view of the situation.

Apparently, the building is being sold for $500K per unit, which means that this unassuming four-unit building will end up being worth two million dollars. Is it any wonder the realtor wants to hide the fact that it can never be converted to condos?

One of the more surreal parts of the afternoon was a clown who wandered up, walked into the building, and 15 minutes later was hauled away for tresspassing. Things are tough in the real estate business, when you have to arrest people for going to your open house.
