Telecom power grab goes national
The same day that the big broadband companies' attempt to ban public wireless in Texas died in committee, we find out that Pete Sessions (R-TX) has proposed a national bill banning public wireless.
HR 2726 (which, we are helpfully informed, "may be cited as the `Preserving Innovation in Telecom Act of 2005'") would prohibit any state or local government from providing "any telecommunications, telecommunications service, information service, or cable service". In case you were wondering about the money trail, Sessions turns out to have gotten $23,750 from SBC last cycle.
